Convincing L^AT_EX to produce good-looking PDFs

Trouble getting decent looking PDF documents out of L^AT_EX because all the text is getting converted to unscalable bitmaps? There’s a \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} in the source document? Then just add a \usepackage{ae,aecompl} after it and you should be good to go.
